ArtBox@BNC comes to life
Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre has an eye-catching new community facility. You may have noticed the beautifully re-purposed shipping container in Tuppen Drive, Sebastopol.
Now known as the ArtBox@BNC, this facility will house all manner of creative processes and artistic goings on. Deidre Burgoyne Rosier is an Indigenous artist who painted the stunning work on the ArtBox exterior and surrounding poles, with the assistance of local Indigenous students from Phoenix P-12 Community College. Their work gives the entrance area of BNC a welcoming and very distinct look.
Deidre is a proud Kokotha/Mirning/Wirangu woman who grew up in Port Lincoln. She has lived in Ballarat since 1999 and raised her seven children and 10 grandchildren in the region. Deidre is an artist in residence at Raintree Art located Cambrian Hill which is a must visit for those with an interest in Indigenous artwork (see details below).

The previously known ContainArt container was originally donated by City of Ballarat to Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre. It as been revamped with grants from City of Ballarat to give opportunity to local artists, community art groups, interest groups and schools to exhibit. The interior has also been freshly painted and heater/cooler and lighting installed so as small artist workshops and an artist in residence program can utilise the space. ArtBox is a community space for all in our community to use. Please contact us if you are interested in displaying art works or other artifacts of interest or running workshop or residency in the ArtBox.
Fittingly, Deirdre had the inaugural exhibition in this fabulous new space.
