Our Kitchen Garden

Community Garden

We have a garden where volunteers can support the work of our social enterprise while learning how to grow fruit and vegetables from our experienced organic market gardener.

The group meets every Wednesday for 2 hours in the Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre's Our Kitchen Garden to talk, share knowledge and grow vegetables for our cooking program. There is no cost. Tea and coffee are provided.

History of Our Garden

Our Kitchen Garden is a work in progress, started in 2015, volunteers have contributed hundreds of hours to establish, maintain and grow the garden. To date their activities have included:

Further development of the garden has included the Shade Sails funded through a State Government Community Shade Grant as well as components funded via the Sebastopol Engaging Communities Program including the patterned concrete ‘floor’ for the outdoor meeting/eating area, the native garden, new bench seats and table, the totem poles project and BBQ.

Sponsorship of paint and materials for the totem poles was provided by Bunnings and Haymes Paint.  The Ballarat South Community Hub installed extra lighting and CCTV cameras for additional security.
