Each year, Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre offers over 50 different Adult, Community and Further Education (ACFE) courses. Our courses are designed to help you learn new skills and build on these skills in a practical and fun way. To ensure we do this, we keep our classes small (8-10 participants), embed practical hands on learning into them all, and have experienced tutors from education and industry deliver them.

To find out more about our courses, click on the links below to download a brochure.

Note: dates may vary without notice. To stay up to date follow our events on Facebook or Social Planet or review the term dates on the Timetable of Courses above.

Workforce Australia Clients

Our pre-accredited courses are endorsed by the Commonwealth Department of Education, Skills and Employment and count towards Workforce Australia mutual obligations and points targets.

Courses for people with a disability

Whilst we offer a range of courses suitable for participants with disabilities, we are not a disability provider. Our Adult Education courses are designed to help people find employment or to continue their education at a TAFE or similar provider.

If you have a disability and are interested in attending a course please:

ACFE Learner Eligibility

The Adult, Community and Further Education (ACFE) Board's, Pre-accredited Training Delivery grant promotes education and training opportunities that engage and initiate vocational pathways for the most educationally disadvantaged learners.

Through the ACFE Board, the Victorian Government provides funding to Learn Local providers to deliver pre-accredited education and training programs to a broad range of Victorians over compulsory school leaving age, with a special focus on people who have had limited prior access to education.

Visit the Department of Education and Training website to find out more.

To enrol in a pre-accredited course students must be

  • 17 years of age and over and not enrolled at school (or over 15 and under 17 and not enrolled at school with a signed exemption from the Department of Education Regional Director)
  • AND
  • an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or a holder of an Australian permanent visa, or an Asylum seeker holding a valid visa that confers eligibility for Skills First training through the Asylum Seeker VET program

Read the current ACFE eligibility criteria here.

Eligibilty for Home Schooled Youth

We recognise young people (15 to 18) who are home schooled may not have access to work ready and career advice however home schooled young people need to be withdrawn from home schooling to be eligible for ACFE training.

Only the Department of Education can issue exemptions from schooling. Parents of home schooling students will need to contact their Department of Education Regional Director to apply for an exemption. Once their home schooling registration is closed and they have the exemption certificate they are eligible for ACFE training.

As not all ACFE courses are appropriate for our younger students, please contact reception staff to discuss your enrolment and provide your exemption certificate BEFORE enrolling.

But what if I am not eligible to do a course?

We can still help you, if you contact us BEFORE enrolling online. If you are not eligible to receive the Victorian Government subsidised rate, we can enrol you in a class as a non-ACFE student. You will receive the same training as everyone else but will need to pay a little bit more to join the course. The following fees will be payable before the first class starts.

  • For a fee-paying course, we generally double the rate, for example a $65 dollar course fee will be $130 for you to join.
  • For a FREE course you will pay $100 for a course above 20 hours or $50 for a course 19 hours or less.

Note: If you are not eligible to enrol in a course and you enrol in it, you will be asked to either pay the appropriate fee or to leave the class. Unfortunately, there are no exceptions, so please talk to us first if you are in doubt about your eligibility.
