Community Bank Buninyong Collaboration

25 June 2025

Over the past twelve months, the Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre community gardens have benefited from the generous support of the Community Bank Buninyong

With funding from the Community Bank, we have delivered a broad range of garden oriented projects and workshops, leading to increased volunteers and people participating in training activities.

Our gardeners have worked with the community to learn about sustainability concepts, including the installation of the gardens with the beneficial native bee and habitat for hoverfly lagoons and other garden pollinators, growing native gardens, adoption and delivery of permaculture inspired gardening practices including organic gardening principles water conservation strategies including use of olla's.

To tie the garden in with our existing kitchen/cooking programs, an emphasis on planning, growing and harvesting produce that can be used by the kitchen in the production of food for the weekly community lunches, leading to food waste going back into the garden for composting, worm farming, with explanation of the cycles.

Executive Officer, Vicki Coltman, believes "support from funding bodies for place-based projects is key to building connected communities and reducing social isolation. For this reason, we are very pleased to be collaborating with the Community Bank Buninyong to grow our community gardens."
